After at least seven delays in the last eight years (the film was originally expected to be released in 2014), director James Cameron is finally ready to show the audience his eerie vision of the long-awaited sequel to “Avatar”, which is now titled.

Disney, which inherited the franchise after the acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, unveiled footage of the film “Avatar: The Way of Water” at CinemaCon, the annual movie theater owners event held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Wearing 3D glasses, attendees watched the trailer lasting a few minutes (which had scenes with almost no dialogue), enjoying images of the dazzling world of the Pandora planet through stunning graphics of crystal blue oceans and lakes.

From May 6, the trailer will be played in theaters exclusively before the screening of Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.

Cameron, who is still in New Zealand and puts the finishing touches to “Avatar 2” (whose budget reached $250 million), speaking via a taped message about the film, said it was “designed for the biggest screen and the most immersive 3D there is,” adding that he wanted to test “the limits of what cinema can do.”

Producer John Landau, who made a lightning trip from New Zealand, noted that at the heart of the four sequels is the “Sally family” and that each of the four films will be autonomous.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” will premiere on December 16, 2022 and “Avatar 3” on December 20, 2024.

In the cast are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, Joel David Moore, Steven Lang, Michelle Yeo, Eddie Falco, Giovanni Ribisi.
