For another year, the Municipal Library of Chania celebrates the World Poetry Day, with stories by two poets from Chania.

As every year, the Municipal Library of Chania on the occasion of the World Poetry Day, invited renowned poets to recite their own or favorite poems.

According to an announcement by the Municipality of Chania, “Responding to the call of the Municipality of Chania, two young, promising Chania poets, Krystalli Glyniadaki and Giannis Doukas, crossed the threshold of the Music Library of the Municipal Library and recited their favorite poems.

Some of the poets, who have been hosted by the Municipal Library in the past, whose stories can be found on the official Youtube channel, are: Vlachaki Marinella, Georgoudakis Grigoris, Kakaroglou Leonidas, Kakatsakis Vangelis, Kartakis Giorgos , Marinaki Eleni, Mendrinou Nektaria, Botonaki Antonia, Chionis Argyris, Titos Patrikios, Katerina Angelaki-Rook, Ganas Michalis, Fostieris Antonis, Koutsoumbeli Chloe and Louladaki Argyro.

A few words about poets

Krystalli Glyniadaki

He was born in Athens. He studied philosophy and political theory at the London School of Economics and King’s College, University of London. He has a postgraduate degree in creative writing from the University of East Anglia. He speaks Greek, English and Norwegian. She has published poems in various magazines and has been honored with the 2018 state poetry award for her poetry collection The Return of the Dead (Polis publications). At the same time, she has a rich translation work from English and Norwegian into Greek, from which her translations of Joe Nesbo’s works stand out. Together with Katerina Schina, Vangelis Hadjivassiliou and Spyros Giannara, he participated, in November 2014, in the contributors of the second cycle of the show “Books in the Box” by NERIT.

Giannis Doukas

Giannis Doukas was born in 1981 in Athens. He has studied literature and Digital Humanities. His books so far: The world as I came and found it (Kedros, 2001), In the middle of the border (Polis, 2011, Reading Poet’s Award of Diavazo magazine), The Standal Syndrome (Polis, 2013, G. Athanas Award of the Academy of Athens ), thebes memphis (Polis, 2020). His poems have been compiled and translated into seven languages. Two songs with his lyrics have been included in the album of Thanos Mikroutsikos In the fog of times (2017). He translates from English and publishes his texts in electronic and printed media.
