The house-museum of Eleftherios Venizelos in Halepa visited on Saturday the distinguished British Hellenist Roderick Beaton, emeritus professor of Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature of the “Korais” chair at King’s College, London and president of the British School of Athens.

Mr. Beaton, after a guided tour of the Museum, wrote in the guest book: “Many congratulations for the beautiful and moving museum that is the House of Eleftherios Venizelos! For so many years I have been following in the footsteps of the great Cretan through reading and lessons. Even if it’s late, I have the feeling that I got close to the person…”.

Visit to the Municipal Library of Chania

Mr. Roderick Beaton visited the Municipal Library of Chania and the personal Library of Eleftherios Venizelos, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Ioannis Giannakakis.

The eminent professor and deep connoisseur of Greek history and literature, was excited by the wealth of the Ethnarch’s Library, leafed through and commented on books in the collection, was interested in the way the great politician studied, his preferences and comments.

He also noted the rare bindings, the variety of content, and emphasized his return for study and research.

At the same time, Mr. Beaton toured the modern spaces of the Municipal Library, the Media Lab, the Music studio, Brain pulse, where the movement of the people and the number of readers impressed him.

Deputy Mayor Mr. Giannakakis thanked him for his presence, “in addition to being an excellent scientist, he is also a kind, bright and generous person”, as he said.
