The Region of Crete welcomes to the island the internationally renowned Athens State Orchestra in three major concerts in the world cradle of the Minoan civilization, Knossos and in the new Archaeological Museum of Chania.
A work by our great Mikis Theodorakis could not be missing from the program, especially when these concerts take place just one year after his death.
In addition to his own atmospheric Adagio, the artistic director of the State Orchestra of Athens, Loukas Karytinos, leads the interpretation of Beethoven’s lush and fresh First Symphony, while the acclaimed violinist and former conductor of the State Orchestra of Athens, Dimitris Semsis, competes with his Concerto Beethoven, the undisputed “Parthenon” of violin concertos.
The above concerts are the start of the 2nd “Festival of Crete”, co-organized by the Region of Crete with the State Orchestra of Athens, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Heraklion, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania and are under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
