Theatre Company Mneme and the magazine “Neo Planodion”, organize for the sixth consecutive year this year,  in the atrium of the Kydonia Theater, the “Nights of July”.

According to a relevant announcement, “our friends and visitors this summer will have the opportunity to attend a wide range of performances, concerts, discussions, lectures and honorary events with leading representatives of music, theater, literature, philosophy and science. thinking.

Among them are Argyris Bakirtzis, Thodoris Gonis, Pantelis Boukalas, Vassilis Kalfas, Nikos Stampolidis, Vassilis Vertoudakis, Stefanos Kaklamanis, Margarita Melmberg and others.

This year’s program is particularly ambitious, as it includes, among other things, events on the current fate of classical antiquity, Cretan Renaissance literature and folk song. His focus, as always, is this year’s summer production of Theatre Company Mneme “Parodos”, a show dedicated to the memory of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and based on the emblematic novel of Kosmas Politis in Hadjifrangos.

The program is curated by Michalis Virvidakis and Costas Koutsourelis. All the prescribed sanitary measures will be observed “.

Saturday 2 | Round table discussion “We and the Ancients”

What is left of Antiquity today? Is her legacy still a source of inspiration for the modern world? Or has its invocation become an atavistic habit, a meaningless ritual of memory?

They discuss four of our leading archaeologists: Vassilios P. Vertoudakis, professor of classical literature at EKPA, Vassilis Kalfas, professor of philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Pantelis Boukalas, poet, essayist and translator, and Nikolaos Chr. Stampolidis, archaeologist, director of the Acropolis Museum.

Coordinated by Costas Koutsourelis, author, editor of Neo Planodion magazine.

Sunday 3 | Vassilis Kalfas guides us to Plato Philosophical walk in Apokoronas

Vassilis Kalfas, professor of philosophy at the University of Thessaloniki and a diligent scholar of Aristotle and Plato, invites us to an original tour of the Cretan land in the steps of the walking tradition. His subject: “For Plato’s Phaedrus”.

The walk will start at 10 in the morning from Platanakia in the area between the villages of Stylos and Nio Chorio Apokoronas. It will last about an hour, on shady rural paths, next to the river Koiliari, easily accessible for all ages.

Monday 4 | Pantelis Boukalas for the folk song “Kokkin ‘acheili epilisa”

A magnificent work, which was unanimously recognized by the critics and honored with the State Essay Award, the four-volume series of studies by Pantelis Boukalas for the folk song (Agra Publications 2018 etc.) opens new avenues in the study and reception of the fascinating of this chapter of Greek culture.

Starting from the recent release of the fourth volume of the series, Kostas Koutsourelis talks with the author. Characteristic excerpts are read by actors of the Kydonia Theater.

Friday 8 Theatrical premiere of “Parodos”

Theatre Company Mneme, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, returns to the atmosphere of those days through the masterpiece “Parodos” by Kosmas Politis, a chapter inserted in the middle of his emblematic novel “In the Great Hatzifrangos” and tragedy experienced by Hellenism since the birth of the Greek state.

Actor and director of the theater, a very special novelist, lyricist of cosmopolitan songs, head of important cultural institutions, Thodoris Gonis has come a long way in our letters and arts.

On the occasion of his recent book The black dress of the crow (Agra 2021) he discusses with Kostas Koutsourelis about his work. Excerpts from his books are read by actors of the Kydonia Theater.
