The scenarios in the British media for the succession of Daniel Craig give and take. By the time the new 007 is found, a lot of water will flow into the groove for many reasons.
«James Bond will return». The return of James Bond has been the law of cinema for almost 60 years. For the first time the promise of the return of the British secret agent 007 appeared in the end credits of the film “Doctor No”, the first film of the successful series in 1962. The same promise appears in the end credits of the film “No Time to Die” from 2021, the last one starring Daniel Craig.
“There is no going back,” Daniel Craig recently told the Los Angeles Times. The 53-year-old actor is still being interviewed for his latest film, but has made it clear that he will not come back as James Bond anymore. As early as the 2008 film “Quantum of Solace”, rumors began to circulate about the replacement of Daniel Craig.
Since then almost every week we read in newspapers and magazines a new name of a possible successor. One is Tom Hindston, one is Tom Hardy. This was followed by other lesser-known people, such as James Norton and Sam Hugan.
Producers want one actor for more than one, two films
For almost ten years one name has been heard more than others: By Idris Elba. But the Londoner no longer has much chance of taking on the role of the legendary agent of the same majesty, because he is now considered too old. In September he turns 50. And by the time the production of the 26th James Bond film begins, it will surely be a few more years and Indra Emba will now be the same age as Daniel Craig today.
Producers of the James Bond films, Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson are looking for a younger actor who can guarantee for several years the continuation of the successful film series. Idris Elba is not the most suitable for this mission.
Recently spider-man star Tom Holland expressed interest in the role. But perhaps he is too young for producers. In addition, his face is already known in Hollywood. And Jamie Dornan? The 39-year-old Northern Irishman, who convinced audiences and critics in Kenneth Branagh’s dramatic film “Belfast”, has a chance of succeeding Daniel Craig. One of the favorites is 38-year-old Irishman Aydan Turner.
But few expect any of these actors to appear on the big screen as James Bond at some point.

What direction will James Bond take in the coming years?
Before the duo of broccoli and wilson producers seriously start looking for Daniel Craig’s successor, they will have to decide the direction the film series wants to take in the coming years. Do they want Bond to remain the cruel hero with the stormy inner world, as incarnated by Daniel Craig? Or would they prefer the agent to regain a little more humor and irony? When Timothy Dalton succeeded the phlegmatic Roger Moore in the late ’80s, the films became more serious by reaching more attention to the hero, as imagined by his creator Ian Fleming.
But there is something else of crucial importance. Before you find the one who will take over from Daniel Craig there should be a script or at least a draft of it. And it is usually preceded by the choice of a director. Which means that enough water will have to flow in the groove before the search for the new 007 begins.
