The Municipal Gallery of Chania is transformed into a museum full of heirlooms – rare paintings and sculptures, watercolors and drawings, useful objects, watches and costumes, weapons and publications, as it hosts in its rooms the exhibition “Greece after the Revolution – Artistic Treasures the Krasaki Collection “, organized by the Municipality of Chania.
Paintings with signatures such as those of Ivan Aivazovsky, Vassily Polenov, Peter von Ess and Hans Christian Hansen, Nikiforos Lytras, Theodoros Rallis and Theodoros Vryzakis, the only known bronze sculpture, the son of Tipos Ludwig Kohlberger of 1834, the only ones -in the world- who are in private hands, become guides in a journey that starts from the Greece of Polygenesis and Philhellenism.
Continues in the years of struggle and independence, “watches” the Greek people enslaved by the Ottomans through the prism of travelers and the eyes of artists to reach the tangible embroidery and intricate jewelry, silver buckles and forges weapons and come up with valuable editions from every corner of Europe.
The 167 exhibits come from the total of 1,500 objects of the Tina and Michalis Krasaki Collection, which is based in Cologne, Germany and for the first time in more than five decades since its establishment is presented publicly and in fact in the birthplace of its collector and journalist. Modern technology will have its own role in the exhibition “Greece after the Revolution – Artistic Treasures from the Krasaki Collection”, as in collaboration with the research team of the Technical University of Crete will create a three-dimensional virtual reality model of the exhibition space that will allow digital reading of information for each project.
At the same time, with the digital, multimedia augmentation of the exhibits of the exhibition, the possibility of interactive observation, analysis and three-dimensional simulation of the special characteristics of the exhibits with simultaneous viewing of the exhibit and the digital augmentation will be given. Through the interaction with the augmented reality, the users will experience a new experience, obtaining in an intelligible way important information about the use of the objects – exhibits and about the history of the specific period.
Apart from the premises of the Municipal Gallery of Chania, part of the exhibition is also hosted in the halls of the Philological Association “O Chrysostomos”, which is the oldest spiritual and cultural association not only in the city of Chania, but also in Crete, as it was founded in 1899.
